Sony Ericsson P1i Phone Review
Sony Ericsson’s P-series of business phones have long been popular in many parts of the world, though not particularly so in North America. The devices have always combined some of the best modern day technology that was available into a device that, while big,

still no larger than a typical PDA. The P1, Sony Ericsson’s new flagship workhorse, is the first P-series device to cram all of that raw capability into a form factor that is only slightly larger than a typical candy bar phone.
The P1i uses the same UIQ 3 software platform as the P990 and there are relatively few software differences between the two phones. However, the P1i has double the RAM of the P990 and this has important implications for software operation and stability which we will discuss more fully in the second part of this review. In this first part of the review we concentrate on the hardware which has also had a very significant overhaul.
Based on the Symbian operating system (v9.1) and UIQ 3.0, the P1i can handle corporate or personal emails, contacts and calendar. It supports push email services including Exchange ActiveSync and BlackBerry Connect and allows for remote wiping of email and PIM data; critical in the event of the phone being stolen or misplaced. The P1i lets users read and edit documents on the move, whether Microsoft Word, PowerPoint or Excel. Both UMTS and integrated WLAN provide for high-speed Web browsing and data downloads, plus email at a rate and performance consumers
Sony Ericsson P1i Phone Review taken from mysymbian “Announced on May 8th 2007, the Sony Ericsson P1 (P1i) is scheduled for release in Q3 2007. With the announcement of the P1 Sony Ericsson breaks the clear distinction between the P-series (P800, P900, P910 and P990) and the M-series (M600) and W-series (W950). Sony Ericsson advertise the P1i as a successor to the P990 and the M600, but the P1 is hard to classify as an upgrade to either of them: it has the same flip-less, candybar form factor as the M600 and W950 while offering many features previously reserved for the P-series, like WiFi or camera. It also uses the UI variant known from M600 and W950 and not from the P990. Does it mean it gets a mixture of the best features of all three of its predecessors”
Sony Ericsson P1i Phone Review taken from allaboutsymbian“The P1i is Sony Ericsson’s new flagship smartphone product. Running the touchscreen variant of UIQ 3.0 on Symbian OS 9.1, with WCDMA, GSM and Wi-Fi connectivity, a QWERTY keyboard or handwriting recognition for text input and a 3.2 megapixel camera, it is well specified and a powerful smartphone.
Sony Ericsson P1i Phone Review taken from t3mobiles“Unfortunately, while the P1i is geared up for almost any input, its interface is easily foxed. While some on-screen buttons are large enough to prod with a finger, others are fiddly without the stylus. Likewise, not every on-screen option can be selected with the jog dial, so single handed use has to be abandoned on a regular basis.
Sony Ericsson P1i Phone Review taken from imobiles“The home screen of the P1i contains the usual important details about the handset like battery life, reception status, date, time, and operator name. A small bar at the top of the screen displays most of these facts, as well as any other indicator icons such as data connections, new messages, missed calls, and so forth. This bar is always displayed unless viewing content full screen. The left most icon of this bar contains a menu which provides shortcuts to make a new call, SMS, MMS, E-mail, contact, task, appointment, note, or recording, a shortcut to the connections manager, and shortcuts to the volume, time, and key lock feature. Handy!
