Nokia E51 review
Nokia’s new wonder Nokia E51 adds greater simplicity, faster access and tighter integration to key applications, while maintaining the smartphone capabilities and stylish design that customers have come to expect in a Nokia Eseries device.
An all-round device, Nokia E51 is ideal for business professionals who require reliable, real-time access to business and people, need to manage time effectively and value a single device that is easy to set up, maintain and use. Nokia E51 users with Nokia mobility solutions can experience mobile telephony, mobile email and messaging, office phone functionality, and cost savings - with the convenience of one phone number, one voice mailbox, one dial plan - in a single device.
Nokia E51 is a sophisticated & compact 3G Smartphone which allows the user to enjoy a fast email service & connection to the World Wide Web. The phone comes in a choice of three stunning colours which include a supplicated black coloured casing, elegant silver coloured casing & a striking bronze coloured casing. The casing is slim & compact when considering the phones built in features & capabilities.
Similarly to E65, the E51 adds keys for fast access to the calendar, the phonebook, the mailbox, and the menu. It is an intriguing fact that despite having precisely the same functions as that of the standard “menu” button of any Nokia S60, it bears a different logo on its surface. The D-Pad has raised edges for better distinction; however, being too small, it will frequently be confused with the one just below resulting in pressing the latter instead. The size of the other buttons also takes its toll; moreover, they are situated too close to each other. This drawback is compensated by their easy-to-feel relief
E51 runs Symbian S60 3rd Edition, with Feature Pack 1 and has dedicated buttons to access your Contacts, Calendar, and Email. An interesting point is that the typical S60 menu key has been changed to a “home” key, with an icon closely resembling the Windows Mobile home key.
The E51, like the rest of the Eseries range, has fabulous battery life, in this case a 1050mAh BP-6MT. With no auto-focus, power hungry camera to supply and (presumably) with limited music and media use, this battery is fine for keeping the E51 up and running for days on end - with light use, it’ll last a full week without recharge, which is impressive. There’s 48MB free RAM after booting, enough for browsing the largest web pages over the fast Wi-Fi or 3.5G (HSDPA) connections, plus 137MB free flash memory (disk C, in addition to whatever microSD card you use) for installing extra applications and documents.
The Sidney Morning Herald reviews the Nokia E51 and writes, “The E51 forsakes mass-market gewgaws but it still has creature comforts such as the near-mandatory MP3 player (with a supplied 256MB MicroSD card to get you started on storing your favourite tracks) and an average quality two-megapixel camera. There’s no front-facing camera, however, so you can forget about two-way video calls.”
IT Reviews has a review of the Nokia E51 and writes, “This is a 3G handset with HSDPA support for fast data downloading, but no front-facing camera for two-way video calling. You can make video calls, but you have to use the back-facing 2-megapixel camera, so can only show the caller what you can see rather than your own face. Some might think that a blessing!”
PC Pro reviews the Nokia E51 and writes, “It isn’t all serious apps…the E51 also sports a 2-megapixel camera, an FM radio, a web browser and a media player. All these toys can be controlled or disabled centrally when used within a corporate environment, as can the microSD storage slot.”
Cnet reviews If the Nokia E51 had a front-facing camera for two-way video calling, we would be hard pressed to find fault with it. We’re not too concerned about the absence of a GPS receiver — Nokia Maps is handy, but anyone wanting serious navigation capability would be advised to get a device with a larger screen. The E51’s nearest rival in the E series, the E65, impressed us when we reviewed it earlier this year. However, the E51 is an even better proposition, being much more pocket-friendly and packed with an impressive array of features.
Cnet rating- 8.2/10
