Nokia 6500 Classic Review
The long wait for slim phone lovers is over - the Nokia 6500 Classic is finally here. While other phone manufactures have been busy releasing a horde of slim-line models, Nokia have been relatively dormant since the Nokia 6230 handset a while ago. So there is quite a lot of expectation on Nokia’s current offering and return to the slimline market.
And at first glance it seems like Nokia have got it right. The phone is small, thin and slick. It has all the features of the typical handset such as high resolution screen and camera. In addition Nokia have also been able to cram in their leaner Symbian S40 operating system into the device.
The 6500 Classic is one good looking phone and has an aura of quality about it with its anodized aluminium case. But let’s see if the Nokia 6500 Classic is up to the task
The 6500 Classic comes equipped with a 2-megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom and a dual-LED flash, but we were a bit surprised that there is no front mounted VGA camera for video calls. The camera takes respectable, but far from outstanding, photos and despite the presence of a flash, night-time photography is a hit and miss affair. The camera doubles as a video recorder, with a resolution of up to 176×144 pixels.
The numerous multimedia capabilities of contemporary phones have called for increasingly bigger displays, which quite often take up more than half of the phone’s front part. This peculiarity has forced designers to extend the length of the devices, in order to fit in the screen, at the same time keeping the buttons handy. It was then that the idea was born to make the devices thinner, instead of looking for ways to make them shorter. We all remember the success achieved by Motorola’s V3, which was the first model of the RAZR series and its launch marked the beginning of the phones’ ‘slimming’.
Just like most other manufacturers, Nokia have been influenced by this development and so here comes a typical representative of this trend, i.e. Nokia 6500 classic. This is one of the two devices from the company’s 6500 series; recently we brought 6500 slide to your attention. Unlike the latter model, classic is a traditional candybar, but it nevertheless preserves the style and the aesthetics: metals were used in its make.
Nokia 6500 Classic Review taken from pocketlint “Turn the phone on and there isn’t much to shout about either, you get a 2 megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom, and dual LED flash, 1GB of internal memory to keep multimedia fans happy, 3G connectivity although no second camera on the front for video calling, and a micro USB charging slot so you can charge it via your PC rather than having to rely on a dedicated Nokia charger.
Nokia 6500 Classic Review taken from cnet reviews “The Nokia 6500 classic is a stunning little phone that measures a mere 9.5mm thin, this mobile phone from Nokia is somewhat excited me (I do not know why but it is). The looks are stylish, and this is down to the anodized aluminum, the phone looks unique and fashionable in any fashion sense. The real special thing about the Nokia 6500 classic has to be that each phone is polished individually and this will mean no 2 mobiles will look the same”
