Mobile Review: LG Rumor Review
The LG Rumor is the first non-smartphone in Sprint’s lineup to offer a QWERTY keypad, and with direct access to Facebook, a built in AOL Instant Messaging client and a 1.3 megapixel camera it is clear that this device is aimed squarely at the teenage crowd.
The Rumor features up to 4 GB of microSD for music, picture and video storage. High speed data is absent, so there is no support for Sprint TV and radio, and users cannot download music over the air.
The LG Rumor has a lovely design, with a built-in hidden QWERTY keyboard for easy messaging. Features include a 1.3-megapixel camera, an MP3 player, Bluetooth, and more. It provides easy access to Facebook, plus it supports Sprint Navigation. The LG Rumor does not have EV-DO, and surfing the Web can be quite slow. The screen has poor resolution, and the camera has no flash. The bottom line: Though the LG Rumor is not as fast as we’d like, it’s still a great messaging multimedia device for those who don’t need a lot of speed.
The 1.3-megapixel camera provides three resolution options (1280 x 960, 640 x 480, and 320 x 240 pixels), and features up to a 15x digital zoom, brightness and white balance controls, self-timer, and in-phone image enhancement. It also provides support for PictBridge technology so you can print your photos without the need of a PC (either using USB or Bluetooth). You can record video at two resolutions–176 x 144 and 128 x 96 pixels–at up to 2 hours for saving to memory card or in 10- or 20-second lengths for sending via messaging or email. Videos can be used as ringers and screen savers
Sprint has had a gaping hole in its phone lineup. Although the carrier offers an array of powerful smartphones with QWERTY keyboards, none of its less-expensive feature phones were so equipped. For example, a Sprint subscriber interested in a Sidekick or similar device had no option on the lower end of the price spectrum.
Overall, the LG Rumor is not as fast as expected. It is quite slow to operate. So, it is suitable for those who do not require speed but it is still great for messaging purpose and multimedia.
Summary:
The good: The LG Rumor has a lovely design, with a built-in hidden QWERTY keyboard for easy messaging. Features include a 1.3-megapixel camera, an MP3 player, Bluetooth, and more. It provides easy access to Facebook, plus it supports Sprint Navigation.
