htc_touch-1.jpgHTC unveiled in London today its new entry in their Touch line-up of phones, the Touch Diamond: a wonderful phenomenon of iPhone me-tooism that apes all the features of Apple’s phone and throws 3G into the mix. That’s tentatively exciting until you realize that, by all accounts, the iPhone will have 3G by the time HTC’s Touch Diamond gets released.

The Touch Diamond (apparently pictured) would be the successor of Touch Cruise and Touch Pro would be the successor of TyTN II, according to the French language reports.

To be available on T-Mobile, GPSAndCo claims to also have the inside knowledge on the specs for the Diamond device:

* Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
* Qualcomm MSM 7201A @ 528MHz
* 256MB ROM/128MB RAM
* 7.2MB HSDPA/HSUPA (rev A EVDO for Sprint versions)
* 2.8-inch VGA screen
* Wi-Fi
* Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR
* eGPS
* 3.1MP camera with flash

Last year, HTC launched its first Touch handset nearly a month ahead of the iPhone. The Touch Diamond will be available throughout Europe starting in June, followed by Asia and the Middle East. The handset will hit North and South America in the second half of the year.

Apple has not said when it will launch a 3G iPhone, but industry analysts expect one within the next few months.

 HTC Touch Diamond vs IPhone - Comparison

So much of what needs comparing between these two devices is software experience, so it had to be a video. And it turned into a more general “Windows Mobile vs. iPhone” sort of deal, so we bring you a long (25 minutes, too long for YouTube!) one. So grab a cuppa joe and witness the (low-key) smackdownery. If you don’t have time just now, here’s the short version:

  • iPhone: Absolutely rocks the universe with its media capabilities and its browser.
  • Windows Mobile: Still the king of productivity. …with plenty of “check out this native 3rd party app” cheap shots thrown in at the end.
